The Civil Service Commission (CSC) administered to a total of 573 examinees the Career Service Examination for Foreign Service Officer (CSC-FSO) on Sunday, 5 February 2023, in 13 regions. This number represents 89.39% of the total registered examinees (641) from the National Capital Region (NCR), Regions 1 to 11, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

CSC Chairperson Karlo Nograles and Commissioner Ryan Alvin Acosta inspected the conduct of the examination at UST Angelicum College in Quezon City—the testing center for NCR, where 63% or 360 out of the total examinees took the test.

The CSE-FSO serves both as a qualifying test and an eligibility examination. As a qualifying test, it is only one of the five-part Foreign Service Officer Examination (FSOE). Passers of the CSE-FSO shall proceed to the succeeding parts of the FSOE—Preliminary Interview, Written Test, Psychological Test, and Oral Test—all administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). The FSOE is being done to recruit candidates for the Foreign Service Officer, Class IV position.

As an eligibility examination, passers of the CSE-FSO shall be conferred the Career FSO Eligibility. This eligibility is appropriate for first level (clerical) and second level (technical) positions in the government which do not involve practice of profession and are not covered by bar, board, and other laws.

The target release date of the exam results is on 19 March 2023, for which the list of passers will be posted on the CSC website.

CSE-FSO was the first career service examination scheduled for 2023. On 26 March, the first conduct of the Career Service Examination-Pen and Paper Test (CSE-PPT) for Professional and Subprofessional levels for this year will be held face-to-face nationwide.
